A letter from NYS Senator Eric Adams, establishing a District Parent Advisory Group:

January 29, 2010

Dear Parent/Guardian:

As a member of the New York State Legislature and a retired New York City Police Department Captain, I have come to appreciate the critical importance of the empowerment of parents. Over the years, I have partnered with them to ensure that Brooklyn is a more family friendly borough.  I believe strongly that parents are a child’s first and foremost teacher, and I truly value their input on all childrearing issues.

To enhance the efficacy of the efforts of those who are nurturing the next generation of Americans, I am establishing the 20th Senatorial District Parent Advisory Group. This working unit will draw its membership from the broad range of parents who represent the diversity of my district.  As an outgrowth of our meetings, the parent advisory group will counsel me and help identify involvement strategies to address the unique needs of children and families.

The 20th Senatorial District Parent Advisory Group has three main goals:

Þ       Empower parents with the skills and knowledge necessary to advocate for their children

Þ       Identify best practices and strategies to strengthen children and families

Þ       Counsel me on parenting issues

Please consider partnering with me in this initiative.  I am dedicated to ensuring that Brooklyn is a premier location for raising children and reinforcing families; I am devoted to working with parents to identify ways in which we can energize our district, city, and state.

Together We Can!

Very truly yours,

Eric Adams

NYS Senator
