NYS Senator Eric Adams and the Senate Majority Conference Announce Passage of a Legislative Package for New Yorkers with Disabilites

NYS Senator Eric Adams and his Majority Conference colleagues expand rights, opportunities, and protections for New Yorkers with disabilities

Senator Adams states:              “Championing the rights of and equality of opportunity for individuals with disabilities, the Senate Majority Conference has enacted a package of eleven bills to provide expanded access to polling places, transportation, and medical equipment for New Yorkers with disabilities.  The legislation will also outlaw discriminatory practices in employment, housing and public services.

“Our plan includes:

·       Expansion of polling locations that conform to the accessibility requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act

·       Equality for individuals with physical disabilities concerning fares for public transportation

·       Accountability for insurance companies that delay reimbursement for out-of-pocket wheelchair purchases

·       Protection of individuals with disabilities who seek services—including programs and activities—from public entities

This package is vitally important to individuals with disabilities during this very rough economic climate, and I am pleased that we can celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act by expanding and strengthening helpful programs and services and enacting many of the bills that were stalled for years under the former Senate leadership.”
