Senator Maziarz launches iPetition to save Sanborn Post Office

New York State Senator George D. Maziarz (R, C – Newfane) has launched an online petition which encourages local residents to oppose the proposed plan by the United States Postal Service (USPS) plan to consolidate the Sanborn Post Office with the LaSalle-Niagara Falls Post Office. Maziarz has also sent letters to United States Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, as well as Congresswoman Louise Slaughter, opposing the proposed consolidation.

“This plan will result in the loss of vital services to the community,” said Maziarz. “In addition, many individuals, especially senior citizens who do not drive, will be denied access to essential mail services.”

The Sanborn Post Office serves thousands of residents of the area, many local businesses, the Niagara-Wheatfield School District, the Orleans-Niagara BOCES School District and Niagara County Community College, which recently constructed a 400-room dormitory.

Logistically, Maziarz said, this consolidation is a bad idea, as the proposed re-location is nearly 10 miles away. When you factor in the fact that the Sanborn location is one of the few postal locations in Western New York that actually generates revenue for the Postal Service, Maziarz said that it is plain to see that this plan is not in the best interests of the USPS or the residents, schools and businesses of this community.

Maziarz stated that he intends to present copies of the petition to the USPS, Senators Gillibrand and Schumer and Congresswoman Slaughter.
