State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C - Schenectady) alerts constituents that the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) is administering the Energy-Efficient Appliance Rebate Program from February 12th through February 21st.

"Similar to the Cash for Clunkers program, this initiatve seeks to encourage people to purchase energy-efficient appliances (such as Energy Star refrigerators, freezers and clothes washers)," Senator Farley said. "However, it is important that consumers understand the eligibility rules and requirements."

The Senator notes that only those items purchased during this time period are eligible, and consumers must then contact NYSERDA for an application for the rebate. NYSERDA has reserved $16.8 million for this State-wide program.

"Once the $16.8 million is gone, consumers will not get the reimbursement," Senator Farley said. "NYSERDA's website has a counter of how much funding is available in the program. I encourage consumers to find out how much money is left in the program before making a purchase. I also strongly encourage consumers to immediately contact NYSERDA after making the purchase to ensure they get the rebate."
