SENATOR DEFRANCISCO DEMANDS THAT GOVERNOR PATERSON
ISSUE STATE INCOME TAX REFUNDS ON TIME

Delay of State Income Tax Checks to Alleviate Budget Woes

Senator John A. DeFrancisco (R-I-C, Syracuse) requested today that Governor Paterson should not delay the return of state income tax refunds, and has started an online petition drive to send the Governor a message.

“The solution to balancing the budget is to cut spending, not to delay the return of taxpayer money, or to add new taxes to our already over-taxed state,” said Senator DeFrancisco.

“Hardworking, tax-paying, New Yorkers are counting on their money to be returned promptly.  So many New Yorkers are facing financial hardship, and the Governor has no right to delay refunds to ease budget woes,” said Senator DeFrancisco.

“We have a lot of tough choices to make in order to solve New York State’s budget problems, but we should not engage in gimmicks like withholding tax refunds that will not solve our long-term problems,” said Senator DeFrancisco.

Senator DeFrancisco’s constituents can sign an on-line petition telling the Governor not to delay state income tax refunds at www.defrancisco.nysenate.gov.  The petition will be delivered to the Governor in the next few weeks.
