John J. Flanagan

April 28, 2010

Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) today invited local residents to nominate family members, friends, coworkers and neighborhood leaders for induction into the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame.  Veterans can be nominated for either their service during combat or their notable work performed after discharge from the service.

Those who know a veteran who lives in the 2nd Senate District, which includes the entire Town of Smithtown and portions of both Brookhaven and Huntington Towns, should submit his or her information to Senator Flanagan’s office for consideration for the New York State Senate Veterans' Hall of Fame.

Nomination forms are available on Senator Flanagan’s web site at senatorflanagan.com or can be requested by calling Senator Flanagan’s office at 631-361-2154.  Residents can also submit their nominees via e-mail at flanagan@senate.state.ny.us.

Those submitting via e-mail must include their name, address and phone number and a brief description of the person they are nominating.  This description should include their full name, the branch of the military they served in, their current address and an outline of why they should be inducted into the New York State Senate Veterans' Hall of Fame.

The New York State Senate will honor distinguished veterans in our area and throughout the state at a reception in Albany.  While in Albany, these distinguished men and women will be special guests at a Senate session where they will be presented with a special resolution honoring them all for their service to our country.

"Our state is blessed to have so many remarkable men and women whose service to our country has provided all of us with the opportunity to live in freedom.  The New York State Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame is an opportunity to show these brave individuals that their efforts are remembered all year long and I hope people across our community will feel free to nominate any veteran that they feel deserves such an honor,” stated Senator Flanagan.

Nominations must be submitted by Monday, May 17th and include a photograph and biography.
