José M. Serrano
January 5, 2010
Senator José M. Serrano, the American Redcross in Greater New York, and the NYC Office of Emergency Management co-sponsored a free presentation designed to prepare individuals and families for emergency situations. Attendees learned how to create a family disaster plan, build and maintain a supply kit, and keep loved ones safe and informed during times of disaster.
The event provided residents with vital resources from community organizations and government agencies, and participants received a free interactive CD that can be used to create a customized evacuation plan and other tools that will help any family get prepared in case of an emergency.
Present at the event were Senator Serrano, Susan Rosen from the American Red Cross, and Gwendolyn Ryals and Howard Polivy from the Roosevelt Island Emergency Response Team (CERT).
“It is important to educate our communities when it comes to emergency preparedness so that if a disaster does occur, our citizens will be better able to work with our emergency response teams, law enforcement, the fire department, and any agency that may be involved in aid during a time of distress,” said Senator Serrano.
