Senate Bill Allows for Keeping the Regents Program through 2011
Queens, NY, August 16, 2010 – During the recent summer session in Albany to finalize the state’s budget, NYS Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr., reports that the Senate passed legislation that would restore the New York State Italian Regents High School Exam until 2011.
Addabbo said, "Working with Senator Diane Savino and my colleagues in the State Legislature, I am proud that we saved the exam from extinction when we went back into session and passed the final piece of this year’s budget. I intend to work just as diligently with them to insure this Regents Program is again saved for 2012."
Senator Addabbo believes that more needs to be done to promote Italian heritage, culture and the language. According to the Senator, increased funding is needed to maintain and improve upon Italian programs. "I look forward to working with other elected officials and Italian groups to explore ways to fund these programs," Addabbo concluded.
