Senator Kenneth P. LaValle today announced that legislation he sponsored to improve the sex offender registry has passed the Senate. The measure would include any violation of registration requirements as part of the offense description provided under Megan’s Law.
“The sex offender registry offers communities an effective informational resource in tracking convicted sex offenders,” said Senator LaValle. “The measure I sponsored would expand the information required by law to include whether the offender is in violation of registration requirements.
“Megan’s Law requires certain sex offenders to register their residence and work address. It is important to the safety of the public that this registry provide people with access to the most complete and accurate information on sex offenders who are, or had been, living within their community,” concluded Senator LaValle.
