(Hillcrest, NY)- Senate President Malcolm A. Smith was joined by the new NYC Chancellor Cathie Black, Assemblyman Rory Lancman (D-Hillcrest) and Councilman James F. Gennaro (D-Fresh Meadows) for a tour of Hillcrest High School today. They toured several classrooms and met with students and teachers.

“ It was a pleasure to have Chancellor Cathie Black tour Hillcrest with me this morning. There are a lot of thriving high schools in Queens and Hillcrest

Assemblyman Rory Lancman said: “As a proud graduate of Hillcrest High School, it was a pleasure to welcome Cathie Black and showcase the educational successes and challenges at this important school in our community.”

Councilman James Gennaro said: “I was honored to help show the chancellor-designate one of the shining stars in my district – Hillcrest High School. I believe Ms. Black has that all important combination of management experience, visionary leadership and old fashioned, roll up your sleeves, can-do attitude. I look forward to working with her as Chancellor.”

Recently, the Tri-Level Legislative Task Force held hearings throughout the city regarding jobs for the 21st Century. The overwhelming testimony was on job readiness and the fact that it starts with a good education. We must all work together to make sure our children are prepared for the 21st century job market,” concluded Senator Smith.

Smaller classroom size, after school programs and increased community involvement when redesigning a failing school was also at the center of the visit and discussion.
