Senator Owen H. Johnson applauds the recent partnership of Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) with Suffolk Transportation Service to bring solar energy to their state-of-the-art headquarters in Bay Shore.
Suffolk Transportation Service installed of a 255-panel solar electric generating photovoltaic (PV) system costing $366,678. Suffolk Transportation Service will save approximately $10,718 in electricity costs per year and may be able to further reduce the cost of the system through Federal and State tax incentives.
LIPA, through its Solar Entrepreneur Program, provided a significant rebate of $96,000 to offset the out-of-pocket expense for the system.
"I commend LIPA, and specifically Chairman Kevin Law, for being in the forefront of advocating and encouraging residential and commercial installations of solar energy on Long Island,” Senator Owen Johnson said.
"I am very pleased to see that LIPA's Solar Pioneer and Entrepreneur program is partnering with Suffolk Transportation Services. The installation of such an innovative solar power system not only helps protect the environment but also saves Suffolk Transportation Services more than $10,000 per year in electricity costs," said Senator Owen Johnson.
"News of the success of this project will hopefully encourage other companies to use similar non- pollutant alternative energy sources that will ultimately reduce Long Island's dependence on fossil fuels. This project and others like it will leave a cleaner, healthier environment for our children and grandchildren."
