Senator Owen H. Johnson joined state and local officials and community members recently to unveil the newly renovated Bay Shore Long Island Rail Road Station, marking the completion of the five year project. New features to the station include a modern covered pedestrian overpass between the eastbound and westbound platforms, new platform lighting, new windows and new paint.
Residents and members of the community approached Senator Owen Johnson five years ago to express concerns over potential safety issues for the 1600 daily passengers. Senator Johnson was instrumental in securing $3.6 million for the project. Funding came from the Metropolitan Transit Authority's capital improvement budget.
“The Bay Shore Train Station services many daily commuters and is a gateway during the summer months for visitors who take the train from New York City to ride the ferries to and from the Fire Island communities," Senator Johnson said. "We can be proud of the new improvements which show Long Island Rail Road patrons that we care about their comfort and safety.”
