Vivian Hart honored for service to our community and our country.

State Senator Owen H. Johnson honored Vivian Hart of Bay Shore at an Hispanic Heritage Award Ceremony on November 18, 2010. Vivian is currently the Executive Director of Pronto of Long Island, Inc., a non-profit community outreach center in Bay Shore serving Brentwood, Bay Shore, Central Islip and neighboring communities.
“Each year we embrace the history, culture and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America,” Senator Johnson said. “This year I am very pleased to honor Vivian Hart for her work and tireless efforts serving our community and our country.” Vivian was born in the Republic of Honduras and her mother and father are from La Lima and La Ceiba respectively.
Prior to her work at Pronto, Vivian held several positions at Long Island Head Start over a 15 year period. They include Program Specialist, Center Manager and Grants and Planning Analyst. Previously, Vivian worked as an Administrative Assistant in a shelter for abused children in California and as a Probation Officer in Texas.
Vivian completed 21 years of combined active and reserve service in the U.S. Marine Corps. She served as a Legal Administrative Chief and retired as a Gunnery Sergeant in February, 2001.
Vivian received a Bachelor’s Degree in Health and Human Services from Southern Illinois University and a Master’s in Post Secondary and Adult Education from Cappella University.
