Senator Reverend Ruben Diaz Applauds DOT’s Immediate Approval of His Speed Hump Request to Protect Bronx Children

New York State Senator Reverend Ruben Diaz (D-Bronx) issued the following statement after receiving notice of the immediate approval of a speed hump to be installed on the block where a five-year old boy was a victim of a hit and run this past August.

“On behalf of the family and friends of young Joshua Saunders, I must publicly thank the New York City Department of Transportation Commissioner Sadik-Khan for her immediate approval of my request for a speed hump on East 214th Street in The Bronx.

After our Sunday August 30th prayer vigil, I gave my word that I would make an official request for a speed hump to help protect the children who live and play on the residential block. I commend Commissioner Sadik-Khan and the Department of Transportation for acting so quickly and for their professional understanding of the community’s urgent request.

It is my privilege to have been able to assist the residents of East 214th Street, and I will continue to pray for Joshua Saunders, his family and neighbors.”
