STACHOWSKI BILL TO MOVE BACKLOG OF PREVAILING WAGE CASES PASSES SENATE: Measure Supports Workers Who Are Entitled To Fair Pay

      Senator William T. Stachowski (D, Lake View) today announced the Senate has passed legislation (S.5014) he sponsored to establish a time schedule for prevailing wage violation claims.

     By establishing a time schedule, the legislation would expedite the process by which prevailing wage violations cases are settled by the New York State Department of Labor.  This bill would require the Department of Labor to take all reasonable steps to expeditiously conclude these investigations after receiving all the necessary records to make a determination.
 
       “Currently, there is a tremendous backlog of prevailing wage violation cases that are just waiting to be completed by investigators through the hearing process,” said Senator Stachowski.  “I am very pleased this bill has passed the Senate.  It will prompt the Department of Labor to take action in a timely manner against those who violate New York State's prevailing wage law.  Many hardworking New Yorkers will benefit from this change in the law as they attempt to recover the fair pay and benefits they may have been denied.”  

         The bill was sent to the Assembly.
