Northern Manhattan Leaders Commend NYPD, Call for Continued Cooperation

(New York, NY) – Following this weekend's arrest of a local man alleged to be plotting a terrorist attack, Northern Manhattan leaders praised both the NYPD and the cooperation from the community that facilitated the arrest. The alleged terrorist is accused of plotting to bomb police stations, post offices, elected officials, and returning soldiers.
State Senator Adriano Espaillat (D - Manhattan/Bronx),Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez, and Assembly Member Guillermo Linares praised the NYPD's work in apprehending the suspect and urged members of the Northern Manhattan community to come forward with any additional information.
“We commend the NYPD for their hard work and diligence in stopping this alleged terror plot," said State Senator Adriano Espaillat. "There's nothing more important than the safety of New Yorkers and today we owe the NYPD a debt of gratitude. We also urge continued cooperation with law enforcement authorities."
“In the decade since September 11th, counter-terrorism work has come to define the mission of the NYPD, and as a result New York City is safer. I thank the NYPD for their work in this investigation, while also reinforcing the fact that Mr. Pimentel is entitled to a presumption of innocence as well as proper legal representation. Let's continue to work together with the Department to ensure that we never again see a terrorist attack in our city" said Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez.
"We are grateful to the NYPD for their action in preventing this attempt terrorist attack in New York City" said Assembly Member Guillermo Linares. "We're eager to continue working with the authorities and urge all residents to fully cooperate with the NYPD and other enforcement units in keeping our communities safe. We must pay close attentions to this terrorist threat and work together to assure that New York City residents are protected.
Though the alleged plotter did not directly work with any organized terrorist outlets, the arrest is the latest reminder of the need to stay on guard against terrorism. According to law enforcement officials, the foiled plot marks the 14th time a terrorist attack has been thwarted in New York, since the September 11th 2011 attacks.
