State of the State Remarks by Senator Andrew Lanza

Andrew J Lanza

January 5, 2011

In his State of the State address today, Governor Cuomo said what I’ve been saying all along — we need to cut taxes, reduce spending and create jobs so that New York becomes an attractive place to live and raise a family.  In order to fix what has been broken over the last 2 years we’ve got to reduce property taxes, reduce the size of government and, most of all, help businesses create new private sector jobs. If we can accomplish those goals, we will restore people’s faith in government and get New York headed in the right direction. The Governor sounded the right themes —because they are the priorities of my constituents – cutting spending, no new taxes, smaller government and more jobs . These themes have been part of the Senate Republican platform all along and were reflected by the votes I cast here in the Senate. I am encouraged by the fact that it sounds likes we finally have a Governor to do the things the people need us to do. I look forward to working with Governor Cuomo to make these priorities a reality for the people of Staten Island.
