Remembering 9/11

"With this Sunday marking the 10th anniversary of 9/11, I wanted to inform you about some of the ways the community will be joining together to honor the memories of those who were lost. 

There are a number of different local remembrance ceremonies taking place throughout the weekend to remember our neighbors and friends who were taken from us on that tragic day.

Following are some of the remembrance ceremonies that will be taking place:  

Friday, September 9th  

7 pm- Town of Oyster Bay 9/11 memorial service (Tobay Beach).

Saturday, September 10th 

12 pm- North Bellmore Fire Department 9/11 remembrance ceremony and unveiling of two pieces of steel from the World Trade Center which will be added to the existing 9/11 monument (1500 Newbridge Road, North Bellmore).

Sunday, September 11th 

7:30 am- Town of Hempstead 9/11 memorial service (Point Lookout Town Park, Lido Boulevard, Point Lookout).

9 am- North Massapequa Fire Department 9/11 ceremony (Department Headquarters, 1000 North Broadway, North Massapequa). 

10 am- Merrick American Legion 9/11 ceremony (Veterans Memorial Park, Merrick Avenue & Lee Avenue, North Merrick). 

10 am- Wantagh American Legion 9/11 remembrance ceremony (American Legion, 3484 Park Avenue, Wantagh). 

10 am- Village of Lindenhurst 9/11 remembrance service (Village Square, North Wellwood Avenue & East Hoffman Avenue, Lindenhurst). 

2 pm- Merrick Fire Department dedication of beam from World Trade Center (9/11 memorial, Northwest corner of Sunrise Highway & Merrick Avenue). 

2 pm- Town of Babylon 9/11 memorial service (Town of Babylon 9/11 Hometown Memorial, between Overlook and Cedar Beaches, Ocean Parkway). 

4 pm- Village of Amityville 9/11 memorial service (9/11 Memorial Park, Broadway, near the LIRR trestle, Amityville). 

7 pm- East Meadow Fire Department 9/11 candlelight vigil (Veterans Plaza, 1700 Prospect Avenue, East Meadow). 

7 pm- Freeport Village 9/11 memorial service (Bayview Avenue & Ray Street, Freeport). 

7 pm- Village of Massapequa Park’s 9/11 remembrance candlelight vigil (Brady Park, Lake Shore Drive, Massapequa Park).           

7 pm- Seaford High School 9/11 candle lighting ceremony (Seaford High School, Seamans Neck Road, Seaford).
