$8 Million Program Will Help Residents Replace Appliances Which Were Lost or Damaged in Hurricane Irene

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today informed residents that New York State will be launching an $8 million appliance rebate program for those who had appliances destroyed or damaged in Hurricane Irene.

Residents who need to replace vital appliances, such as refrigerators, boilers, furnaces, water heaters, washing machines, clothes dryers, and dehumidifiers, that were destroyed or damaged because of Hurricane Irene may qualify to receive rebates by purchasing eligible ENERGY STAR or High Efficiency appliances.

To qualify for the rebate, residents must have purchased the eligible appliance on or after August 29, 2011 and not have received compensation from FEMA or their insurance company for the new appliance. Only appliances that replace those which were damaged during Hurricane Irene are eligible for the rebates, with the exception of dehumidifiers. Dehumidifier purchases may be eligible if they are either replacing a storm-damaged dehumidifier or being used to combat humidity resulting from the storm.

Rebate applications will be available starting Monday, September 19th. Residents can apply for the rebate by calling the program hotline at 1-877-NY-SMART (877-697-6278) or over the Internet at www.nysappliancerebates.com. Rebates will be given on a first come, first served basis until the program funding is exhausted.

Residents who need more information about the rebate program can call the program hotline at 1-877-NY-SMART (877-697-6278) or visit www.nysappliancerebates.com.
