Senator Martins Congratulates Manhasset Women's Coalition Against Breast Cancer For Successful Wellness Fair

The Manhasset Women’s Coalition Against Breast Cancer, in cooperation with the Manhasset-Lakeville and Plandome Fire Departments, presented a wellness fair on Monday, September 19 to promote health and wellness in the community. The fair was successful in its mission of providing the community with information to promote healthy living.

In order to kickoff the fair, the Pink Heals pink fire truck arrived all the way from Arizona. Pink Heals is a non-profit organizations that travels across the country the empower citizens in the right against breast cancer.

On behalf of New York State, Senator Martins welcomed Dave Graybill of Pink Heals and its volunteers to New York at an opening ceremony at Town of North Hempstead Hall. “Breast cancer is a disease that touches us all. We all know someone who has been affected by this disease whether it’s a family member or friend. It’s all of our duty to raise awareness to be more effective in the fight against breast cancer,” Senator Martins said. “I applaud the Manhasset Women’s Coalition Against Breast Cancer for their efforts in promoting the health of the community and thank Pink Heals from coming all the way from Arizona for this important event.”

Other elected officials on hand to mark the occasion included North Hempstead Town Clerk Leslie Gross, Receiver of Taxes Charles Berman, and Town Councilwomen Kitty Poons and Lee Seeman as well as Manhasset Lakeville Water Commissioner Donald O’Brien.

Members of the Manhasset Women’s Coalition Against Breast Cancer including President Grace Mahler, Treasurer Chris McCarty and Director Jean O’Malley made the wellness fair possible. In addition, the coalition received valuable help from volunteers Grace Cashin, Elizabeth Parrella, Rosemary O’Neill and Anne Raab.

After the opening ceremony at town hall, the fair was held in the Manhasset-Lakeville firehouse. Information tables were set up on various areas of health. Presentations were given on different health topics such as breast health and breast cancer awareness and holistic nutrition. Dr. Neeta M. Shah, vice-president for Health and Wellness and the Katz Institute for Women’s Health at North Shore-LIJ, gave a presentation on the foundation for health and wellness.
