Jack M. Martins

May 5, 2011

Senator Jack M. Martins visited the Port Washington Education Foundation Educational Support Center at the Port Washington Public Library on Tuesday, April 26. He spoke with the third grade students gathered there for the weekly after-school program.

Senator Martins stated that the one of the best jobs of his job as a Senator was visiting with students. The children sang a song for the Senator about Port Washington, accompanied on the guitar by Doreen Gamel, who also wrote the lyrics.

Senator Martins explained why it is important to recognize those who work to make the community a better place and then proudly recognized PWEF Educational Support Center founder Ellen Bernstein Fox with a Senate Proclamation.

As Mrs. Fox accepted the recognition, she mentioned the volunteer retired educators and high school students who make the program such a success and thanked the PW Library for housing the Center.

The Port Washington Education Foundation is an independent, non-profit, community-based organization. The Foundation supports initiatives to enhance and expand educational opportunities over and above basic educational needs for all students in the Port Washington public schools. The organization actively seeks donations, grants and government assistance in order to distribute funds to selected programs and resources. For more information, visit www.PWEF.org.
