Senator Jack M. Martins and Assemblyman Ed Ra greeted students from the Elmont Union Free School District for their annual performance at the Empire State Plaza Concourse for "Music in Our Schools Week" sponsored by NYSSMA! Senator Martins greeted the Elmont String Ensemble and opened the performance with remarks. Senator Martins thanked Elmont's "maestro" Xavier Rodriguez for his work and dedication as a music teacher in the Elmont School district.
"The performance of the Elmont string chamber ensemble was truly sensational," said Senator Martins adding, "I want to thank the parents and family members who came to Albany and are always there for every practice and recital. Their support has helped make these young musicians into the Yo Yo Ma's and Itzhak Perlman's of tomorrow. I couldn't have been more proud of them."
Assemblyman Ed Ra added, "The Elmont String Chamber Ensemble gave a wonderful performance today. Their talent, dedication, and countless hours of practice have made these musicians the outstanding ensemble they are today."
The string ensemble is made up of students from Covert Avenue, Dutch Broadway, Alden Terrace, Clara Carlson, Gotham Avenue and Stewart Manor Schools.
