James S. Alesi

In an effort to assist local residents with the proper disposal of their tattered American Flags, Senator Alesi is welcoming residents to his District Office in Fairport this Saturday morning, June 4th, between 10:00 a.m., and 12:00 p.m., to drop off their tattered flags. Boy Scouts from Troop 207 in Fairport will be on hand to receive the flags, and have new American Flags for sale.
“Our American Flag has long exemplified the spirit of those who have lost their lives in battle, as well as those who have fought valiantly and survived,” said Senator Alesi. “Our flag stands for all our ancestors who have sacrificed at home to raise their families, and it stands for us today. That is why our flag must be respected and cared for, and when tattered, retired and disposed of in a dignified way, and I am honored to offer this opportunity. Replacing a frayed flag and flying a new one before Flag Day, June 14th, would be a wonderful tribute to our great nation.”
The American Flags received from residents at this Saturday’s drop-off, will be disposed of properly at a public ceremony later this year. According to the United States Code, when an American Flag “is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display,” the flag “should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.”
***Senator Alesi’s American Flag drop-off will be held at his Fairport District Office, 220 Packetts Landing in the Village of Fairport, between 10:00 a.m., and 12:00 p.m., Saturday, June 4th. This Saturday is also the first day of Fairport Canal Days and entry into the public parking lot at Packetts Landing will be accessible only from Parker Street, off East Church Street (Route 31F).
