WOODLAWN HEIGHTS, BRONX, N.Y. – Senator Jeffrey D. Klein, (D-Bronx/ Westchester) joined Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Eamon Gilmore, to celebrate the launch of the Woodlawn “Meals on Wheels” Program at the Emerald Isle Immigration Center. The two were joined by the seniors and staff members of Emerald Isle who have been participating in the program.
The “Meals on Wheels program”, currently being funded through a $50,000 grant secured by Senator Klein will deliver daily meals every weekday to between 25 and 30 residents in need. The funding was secured by Senator Klein during the 2009-2010 budget process and just recently released by the New York State Department of Aging.
“As a society we will be judged how we treat those who came before us” said Senator Klein “That’s why I’m so proud of this program because it not only provides meals to local seniors in need, it also allows local Woodlawn residents the opportunity to give back to their fellow neighbor”
“The Irish American community is truly grateful to Senator Klein Through his work our Seniors have participated in a program that gives them not only food but companionship. It has made an enormous difference in their lives”” said Brian O'Dwyer, Emerald Isle Immigration Center
