Environmental Champion, LaValle Named to Senate Environmental Conservation Committee.

New York State Senator Kenneth P. LaValle, a fierce advocate for the environment and author of the landmark Pine Barrens Preservation  Act of 1993 has been appointed to the New York State Senate’s Environmental Conservation Committee. LaValle was told of the appointment on Monday, February 14.

“I am pleased to be named a member of the Senate’s committee,” LaValle said, “and will continue to be a vocal advocate for the environment and the preservation of the many resources that make Suffolk County both unique and a great place to live, work and play.”

As the author of the historic Pine Barrens legislation, LaValle  assured the protection of environmentally-sensitive lands for generations to come.  LaValle’s measure is often cited as a key initiative in the preservation and environmental well-being of Long Island. The Long Island Pine Barrens Society, the Group for the South Fork, the North Fork Environmental Council, the Peconic  Land Trust, New York League of Conservation Voters, The Sierra Club and the Nature Conservancy are but a few of the many organizations from whom LaValle has received accolades for his contributions on environmental issues.

LaValle, just last week, held his annual environmental roundtable that brought together nearly  70 individuals from  more than two dozen environmental groups and stakeholders. The roundtable participants help LaValle chart a legislative agenda that continues efforts to preserve the character and quality of life in Suffolk County.

Senator LaValle is Chairman of the Senate Higher Education Committee and a member of the Senate’s committees on: Aging, Education, Environmental Conservation, Finance, Insurance, Judiciary, and Rules.
