Senator Golden, Assemblywoman Malliotakis, and the Office of the Kings County District Attorney, Addresses the Ongoing Issue of Graffiti

Brooklyn – Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn), joined with Assemblywoman Malliotakis, and the office of the District Attorney Charles Hynes, today addressed the ongoing issue of graffiti in our neighborhood. 

Senator Golden, outside The Charles Elias Salon, on 78^th and 3^rd, stated the following:

“Today, we stand here to remind everyone that graffiti cannot be tolerated.  I call on all citizens of our community to say something if you see it.  I ask you to call the police, call my office, or call the District Attorney.  My staff today will be taking pictures of graffiti and posting them onto my facebook page.  I am asking everyone to send me pictures of graffiti so we can publish them, and I am asking anyone who recognizes who these tags belong too to report them immediately.   Together, we can make our community a great, beautiful place to live, to work, and to raise a family.”

“Graffiti is the ultimate form of disrespect against someone’s private property and is something that my parents battled regularly when they owned a small business here in Brooklyn,” said Assemblywoman Malliotakis.  “I’m proud to join Senator Golden in asking our neighbors and friends to take a stand against this mindless behavior by reporting such vandalism as soon as it’s seen or anticipated.”

“Graffiti, even on one wall, scars an entire neighborhood,” said District Attorney Charles Hynes.  “Graffiti vandals show no respect for their neighbors.  Using those charged with minor offenses to clean graffiti up is a very worthwhile form of community service.” 

Also at the press conference was an organization called CitySolve, who cleans graffiti throughout the neighborhood.  You can report graffiti to Senator Golden’s office and it will be added to an ongoing list to be removed as soon as possible.
