Senator Golden Improves Poor Street Lighting Conditions

Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) today is announcing that the Department of Transportation has approved his request to improve street lighting conditions along 6th Avenue following a request he made based on discussions with residents at a recent block meeting held in his district office.

The Department of Transportation, Division of Street Lighting, has notified Senator Golden of their plans to increase the wattage of the existing street lights along 6th Avenue, from 72nd Street to Bay Ridge Parkway, by Fall, 2011. Additionally, a new street light will be installed between 73rd Street and 74th Street on 6th Avenue.

Senator Golden stated, “I thank the Transportation Department for their attention to the concerns of area residents who believe the streets to be dark along this portion of 6th Avenue. For the safety of all pedestrians and for general public safety, I believe that this additional lighting will make residents feel safer. I thank the neighbors for sharing their concerns with me and I am glad to have been able to address them on their behalf.”
