November 2, 2011
Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn), after Governor Cuomo signed the NY Autism Treatment Insurance Bill, gave the following statement:
“After seven years of negotiation, I am happy to see that the legislature and the Governor have reached an agreement on this vital legislation. I was proud to sponsor versions of this bill in the past, and I was proud to see that the Governor has signed it into law.
“This legislation says, once and for all, that New York understands the complexity of this medical condition, and we say that insurance companies must cover diagnosis and treatment for autism spectrum disorders.”
The NY Autism Treatment Insurance Bill will require New York insurance companies to cover diagnosis, treatment, and screening for disorders on the autism spectrum. The law takes effect November 1, 2012.
