New York State Senate Majority Leader Dean G. Skelos today appointed Senator Martin Golden (R,C,I-Brooklyn) as the Senate Majority’s representative to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Capital Program Review Board.
The Board is responsible for overseeing and approving the MTA’s five year capital spending programs. The last full 5-year MTA capital plan totaled more than $21 billion.
“We need a strong voice on the MTA’s Capital Program Review Board who will work to control spending so we can use our resources to ensure the entire 12-county MTA service region has an affordable and dependable mass transit system for commuters and their families. I am confident that Senator Golden will work with the Mayor and others to keep the MTA moving forward,” Senator Skelos said.
Senator Marty Golden stated, "I thank Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos for selecting me as the Senate Majority's representative to the Metropolitan Transit Authority’s Capital Program Review Board. I look forward to being part of negotiations that will chart a course for the future of transportation in New York. Capital spending, on the part of the Metropolitan Transit Authority system, is one of the best ways to guarantee improved travels for all New Yorkers. Commuters are demanding improvements to better their daily commute and their quality of life and we must make it happen.”
The MTA Capital Program Review Board is comprised of four voting members appointed by the Senate Majority Leader, the Speaker of the Assembly, the Governor and the New York City Mayor, as well as two non-voting members appointed by the Minority leaders of the Senate and Assembly.
Senator Golden was reelected in November 2010 to his 5th term in the New York State Senate. He also serves as the Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Aging.
