Statement by Senator Golden on Arrest of Suspect in Brooklyn Sexual Assault

Commends NYPD For Swift Arrest

Renews Calls for Stronger Laws to Protect Children Against Sex Offenders

Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn), a former New York City Police Officer, has issued the following statement following the arrest of a suspect in the recent disturbing sexual assault which took place on the streets of Brooklyn:

“This morning, we have learned that an arrest has been made in the disturbing sexual assault case involving a teenage boy. Another pervert has been taken off of our streets and will now serve time for a heinous act of abuse. I join all residents in commending the efforts of the New York City Police Department, the Sex Crimes Unit, the 68th Precinct and the 72nd Precinct, for their diligence in making an arrest in this case.

We are learning that this suspect had previously served 5 years in jail for sexual abuse. To think, that he has damaged the lives of another young member of our society, and their family, by impersonating a police officer, is again a reminder of the need for tougher penalties for those convicted of sexual abuse.

We must do more to prevent these perpetrators from having the chance to hurt our children. I will continue to work within the State Senate to bring about greater security for our most vulnerable.

My thoughts are with the victim and his family at this time.”
