Senator Nozzolio: Thank You to Our Veterans

Michael F. Nozzolio

November 8, 2011

In recognition of Veterans Day this Friday, November 11th, State Senator Mike Nozzolio is encouraging everyone to reach out to our brave servicemen and women and extend their thanks in whatever way they can.

“There is no greater obligation than to honor and thank our veterans for their service to our nation, whether in times of peace or in times of conflict,” said Senator Nozzolio. “I have often said a person is a hero not for what they do, but for what they would do. Our soldiers risk their lives each and every day.  They leave their family and friends and the comfort of their homes to serve a cause greater than themselves. They protect the rights and freedoms that we have and often take for granted.”

On Veterans Day, Senator Nozzolio will speak during a service beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park in Auburn where he will pay tribute to the brave men and women who have defended our Nation throughout history. Senator Nozzolio helped to establish Veterans Memorial Park to honor local veterans of all wars, beginning with the American Revolution and including our military heroes of today.

Senator Nozzolio is encouraging everyone to think of ways to acknowledge and thank our veterans for their service.  Ideas include a moment of silence, a simple thank-you to someone you know who served in the military, or an act of kindness towards them or their family.

“We must never forget the sacrifices our soldiers have made for us and continue to make every single day", said Senator Nozzolio.

In a few weeks, Senator Nozzolio will once again be conducting his annual "Holiday Drive for the Troops" to collect nonperishable items from the community to be sent to military personnel deployed overseas. Information will be available on Senator Nozzolio’s website at www.SenatorNozzolio.com and his Facebook page on the days of the Holiday Drive and locations where these items can be donated.

“It is more important than ever that we recognize the contributions of our local soldiers and there is no better time than the holiday season to think of the troops defending our Nation overseas,” said Senator Nozzolio. “Just as our veterans recognized their duty to honor and serve their Country, we too must recognize our duty as Americans to honor the profound sacrifices they made so that we could live our lives in freedom.”
