Ramapo, NY – (February 9, 2012) – On Wednesday, Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Orange) joined Lieutenant Governor Robert Duffy, Rockland County Sheriff Lou Falco, District Attorney Tom Zugibe, and other state and local officials at the Rockland Fire Training Center in Ramapo to urge passage of expanding the DNA database that would mandate that people convicted of all crimes provide a DNA sample. Currently, just about half of the people convicted of a felony and certain misdemeanor crimes are included in a database. State and local officials have said that the expansion is necessary to improve and update law enforcement tools that would help go after criminals. The State Senate has already adopted Governor Cuomo’s proposal which now lies in the State Assembly.
