Dear Neighbor,
With the end of the school year in sight, many students are anxiously awaiting the summer months. As the school year winds down and summer begins, I would like to invite students in the 55th Senate District – particularly those in grades four through six – to participate in my annual Summer Reading Program. This program is free and it is open to students in the 55th District who plan to read during the summer months.
This year’s program will once again feature the NY Read website, www.nyread.com. Participating students will use an online journal to keep track of their reading progress throughout the summer. To complete the summer reading challenge, students are asked to read at least three books over the summer and record their progress throughout the summer in an online journal. Children who complete the Summer Reading Program online will receive a Summer Reading Certificate to recognize their efforts.
Reading throughout the summer provides students with additional building blocks for a strong foundation going into the next school year. I always look forward to offering the Summer Reading Program to young students because I enjoy reading the journals that are received by my office. I am continuously amazed by the impression that a good book has on young readers. Students interested in participating in the program can do so here.
Should you have any questions or if you would like more information about the Summer Reading Program, please contact my District Office at (585) 223-1800. Happy reading!
Sincerely,
Senator Jim Alesi
