Griffo: Rome Sentinel Executive Will Help Keep Government Working in the Open

New York State Senator Joseph A. Griffo (R-C-IP, Rome) today announced that Rome Sentinel President and Publisher Stephen B. Waters has been appointed to serve on the Committee on Open Government, an important statewide body designed to ensure that the laws New York has passed to open government to the people are being observed, and to make recommendations for new laws that will expand government transparency and protect the people’s right to know what government is doing in their behalf. Waters was officially appointed by the Senate in accordance with the formulation of the committee as based in law.

“Steve Waters has committed a lifetime of professional and public service to the cause of open government with the goal of providing the people with the information they need to understand what government is doing, saying and spending. He has operated with the highest ethical standards in his own writings and in his management of Oneida County’s largest locally owned newspaper. While never backing off from his stance on open government, Steve has shown a willingness to work with government officials and educate them on the ways that transparency helps make good government even more effective. He will be an outstanding addition to the committee and will help ensure that the laws we pass in the Legislature that are designed to provide open government succeed in their purpose.”
