LaValle: Senate Bill Designates Portion of Route 24 as Peconic Highway.

New York State Senator Kenneth P. LaValle said today that legislation (S 6768) to designate the portion of state Route 24 located in the towns of Southampton and Brookhaven at the junction of interstate 495 and ending at the easterly junction of Route 27 as the "Peconic Highway" has been passed by the NY State Senate.
New York State Route 24, an 11 mile long highway which begins at Exit 71 off the Long Island Expressway, runs through the Towns of Brookhaven and Southampton, and ends at Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays.
“Route 24 follows the Peconic River, a New York State protected and ecologically significant wild, scenic and recreational river, “ Senator LaValle said.
“Route 24 also hugs the shoreline of the federally recognized Peconic Estuary; an estuary which is a driving economic force for the Peconic region,” LaValle added.
NY Route 24 links downtown Riverhead with the South Fork and provides an easy route to connect the North and South Forks of the Peconic Region.
The bill will now be taken up by the Assembly.
