June 14, 2012

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, 22nd District), last week hosted his annual Senator for a Day essay contest. With over 170 essays submitted, and 23 finalists selected from the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade, this year’s event was another opportunity for Senator Golden to get first hand ideas for our community from the best and the brightest it has to offer.

This year’s winner was 8th Grader Joshua Rowe from Midwood Catholic Academy, whose winning essay earns him a trip to Albany. Second and third place winners are 7th Grader Michael Zamuro from St. Anselm’s and 6th Grader Avi Stern from PS/IS 104 who will have lunch with the Senator and have the opportunity to speak in more detail about their ideas.

The winners presented their essays along with the other finalists at Shore Hill Senior Center Community Room in Bay Ridge. In his essay, Joshua focused on crime, infrastructure, and environmental issues as well as the importance of the input of ones constituents.

Senator Marty Golden stated, “I am proud to have welcomed the future of our community to Shore Hill and want to congratulate our three winners. They show all of us that some of the best ideas for our community come from our students. They are the future, and I look forward to seeing all of them grow and give back to make our city a better place to live, to work, and to raise a family.”
