Ritchie, Huang Discuss Working Together to Fight Mosquito-Borne Disease
State Senator Patty Ritchie met with Oswego County Public Health Director Jiancheng Huang Monday, to discuss what can be done to stop the spread of mosquito-borne illnesses in the Central New York region.
“As we all know, EEE and West Nile Virus are very serious problems here in Central New York,” said Senator Ritchie.
“I’m glad I had the opportunity to sit down with Mr. Huang to strategize ways we can work together, improve communication and help stop the spread of these diseases in our region.”
There have been a number of West Nile Virus discoveries in several parts of Oswego County, along with a recent discovery of EEE in a sample of mosquitoes collected in the village of Central Square.
Health officials are still reminding people to use bug spray, wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants, limit outdoor activities in areas where mosquitoes are active and to take other necessary precautions to avoid diseases like the West Nile Virus and EEE.
