Bill creates public library districts in the Town of LaGrange and Village of Wappingers Falls
Senator Steve Saland (R,I,C – Poughkeepsie) today announced his legislation creating the Grinnell Public Library District in the town of Wappingers Falls (S.7000), and the LaGrange Public Library District in the town of LaGrange ( S.5504B) has passed the Senate.
“The Grinnell Library and the LaGrange Association Library have determined that to stabilize funding and enhance accountability to their town residents, rechartering as a public library district would best serve the interests of their communities,” stated Senator Saland. “Rechartering will help to ensure not only the survival of these treasured libraries, but their role as our community’s educational and cultural resource for the future.”
In addition to creating two new public library districts, Senator Saland’s bills (S.7000 and S.5504B) authorize a public vote on the creation of the districts, the budget, and the election of the trustees.
Both bills have been sent to the Assembly.
