Oppenheimer Urges All Women to Get a Mammogram this Mother's Day

Senator Suzi Oppenheimer (D-Mamaroneck) today urged all women to give themselves the gift of peace of mind this Mother’s Day by scheduling an appointment for a mammogram. Along with the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program, the Senator is promoting getting tested for breast cancer in their annual Mother’s Day mammography campaign.

“Mammograms are so important because they offer the greatest opportunity for early detection and a full recovery,” stated the Senator. “And since 95 percent of all mammograms prove to be normal, there is no reason to fear or avoid being tested.”

“I myself am a breast cancer survivor,” said Oppenheimer, whose cancer was detected more than 20 years ago during a routine mammogram.

In addition to referrals, callers can get emotional support from the Hotline’s specially trained volunteers, most of whom are women who have had breast cancer.
