Senator Tim Kennedy joined officials from the New York Power Authority and Mayer Brothers Apple Products to mark the allocation of low-cost power from ReCharge NY, which is supporting job retention and private capital investments at the Western New York juice producer's facilities. NYPA Chairman John Koelmel, Trustee Terrance Flynn and President Gil Quiniones stopped by Mayer Bros. Cider Mill to highlight the impact of ReCharge NY at Mayer Bros. and throughout the Western New York region.
ReCharge NY is the new statewide power program, established by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo and approved by the State Legislature, to give businesses and other enterprises a boost in lowering their operating costs in support of economic development.
Mayer Bros. is seeing a substantial boost from ReCharge NY power. The allocations, amounting to 626 kilowatts, are linked to the retention of the 200 jobs at the Mayer Bros. facilities and capital investments of more than $7 million. Across Western New York, more than 90 employers have received ReCharge NY power allocations, which are linked to the retention of 26,500 jobs under the program.
At the event Thursday, Senator Kennedy delivered the following remarks:
“The ReCharge New York program is a critical component of the innovative measures that we’ve enacted with Governor Cuomo to ignite business growth and create jobs in New York State.
“Mayer Brothers and approximately 90 other significant employers in Western New York have received allocations from ReCharge New York. This critical support is linked to the retention of about 26,500 jobs for hardworking Western New Yorkers throughout the region.
“Under this program, New York State’s low-cost power resources are being delivered to local businesses in exchange for job creation and retention.
“In the past, the state had attempted to use our low-cost energy resources to foster business expansion, but the programs had to be reapproved with new legislation year after year – putting increased strain on companies’ ability to plan for the future.
“It was a cycle of uncertainty that made it difficult for business owners to do the long-term planning necessary to grow new jobs.
“The new ReCharge New York legislation establishes a long-term commitment to job growth and business expansion in Western New York and across the state.
“We see the ReCharge New York program at work today, here at Mayer Brothers. It’s helping to keep hardworking Western New Yorkers on the job and leading to business expansion. 200 jobs retained, over $7 million in private capital investment linked to ReCharge New York.
“I thank Governor Cuomo for his outstanding leadership in working so hard to spark economic growth and make New York State open for business. To NYPA and all of the partners in this program, thank you for your work. And I want to thank Mayer Brothers for demonstrating such a strong commitment to putting Western New Yorkers to work and expanding their business locally.”
