Minority/woman-Owned Business Certification Focus of Forum

        Minority and woman-owned businesses interested in learning how to become certified to do business with New York State are invited to attend a public forum in Lake Placid on Friday March 1.  The meeting is being co-hosted by Senator Betty Little, Empire State Development and the Adirondack Economic Development Corporation.

        The event will be held 1 to 3 pm at the Olympic Center, 2634 Main Street in Lake Placid.

        “This is a unique opportunity for those interested in becoming certified to learn about the process and New York’s state contracting system,” said Little.  “I’m looking forward to an informative discussion, lots of questions and helpful assistance provided that I know will be of great value to those interested.”

        The presentation will focus on how to become certified with the state of New York and how to navigate the procurement process, including the new New York State Contracting System. 

         Requirements for minority and women-owned business certification include: must have been in business for at least one year; at least 51 percent owned, operated, and controlled by a woman or a member of a recognized minority group, including Asian American, African American, Hispanic American or Native American; the minority and/or women ownership has and exercises the authority to independently control the day-to-day business decisions; and, the business is independently owned, operated and authorized to do business in New York State.
