Senator George Maziarz, Mayor Rob Ortt, Congressman Brian Higgins, former Congressman Thomas Reynolds, City Attorney Shawn Nickerson and other local officials participated in a ground breaking event for the long awaited Meadow Drive Extension which will extend from West to East between Nash Road and Erie Avenue.
The project, which includes 1.4 million dollars in federal funds, along with state and local funds, has been in the works since 2006. It will connect the mid-city business district to a burgeoning commercial/industrial corridor along Erie Avenue, while improving traffic flow in the city.
“This is a long overdue and much needed extension that will not only provide short term construction jobs, but will also result in better traffic flow and connect Payne Avenue and our mid-city business district to Erie Avenue and a budding commercial/industrial corridor,” said Mayor Ortt. “Even though the funding was appropriated years ago, it has taken the collective efforts of my administration, together with City Attorney Shawn Nickerson, as well as our engineer’s office and our Common Council, to make this project a reality.”
The work will begin immediately by DiPizio Construction Company, Inc. who was awarded the bid on the project. The road is expected to be completed before the end of the year depending on the weather.
