The New York State Senate has passed legislation (S882) sponsored by Senator John J. Bonacic (R/C/I-Mt. Hope) to establish the task force on adults with Autism within the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities.
“Autism is a lifelong disability, yet much of the focus on Autism spectrum disorders relates to education and development, and neglects concerns that may arise later in a person's life,” said Senator Bonacic.
Autism advocates have consistently approached the legislature calling for state government to better serve the community of adults with Autism spectrum disorders. The Senate passed the same bill sponsored by Senator Bonacic last year, but it has not yet passed the New York State Assembly.
“It is in everyone’s interest to establish a task force to help adults with Autism spectrum disorders living in New York, to develop a comprehensive plan for meeting their needs,” Senator Bonacic concluded.
