Sea Life Story Time at the Brooklyn Public Library

The Wildlife Conservation Society’s New York Aquarium and the Brooklyn Public Library have teamed up to host Sea Life Story Time, a series of free events designed to encourage literacy and science learning among children of all ages.

 

Sea Life Story time events will be held at three different Brooklyn Public Library branches on select dates between August 13 and August 16.

 

Tuesday, August 13 at 2 p.m. - Cypress Hills branch, 1197 Sutter Ave. at Crystal St.

Thursday, August 15 at 2 p.m. - Dyker branch, 8202 13th Avenue at 82nd St.

Friday, August 16 at 2 p.m. - Windsor Terrace branch, 160 E. 5th St. at Fort Hamilton Pkwy

 

 

Activities include:

Read-Aloud Storytelling – Children will listen to a reading from one of six titles selected for the event. Stories include:

· Arctic Tale by Rebecca Baines

· Beast Feast by Douglas Florian

· In the Swim by Douglas Florian

· My Visit to the Aquarium by Aliki

· National Geographic Book of Animal Poetry by various authors

· Where’s Walrus? by Steven Savage.

· Walruses by Louise Spilsbury, will also be featured on display.

 

Photo Opp. With Walrus Mascot – Children and their families will have the opportunity to meet the aquarium’s new walrus mascot and take photographs with him. Guests are asked to bring their own cameras if they would like to take photos.

 

Walrus Trivia – Children will answer questions about the anatomy, lifestyle, habitat, etc. of walruses. Prizes will be given to the first participants to answer correctly.

 

Aquarium Ticket Giveaway- A family four-pack of tickets will be raffled off at each event.

 

 

In addition, our Walrus mascot will be visiting Brooklyn Public Library Summer Reading celebrations at the following locations:

 

Tuesday, August 20 at 2:00 p.m. Borough Park branch, 1265 43rd St. at 13th Ave.

Wednesday, August 21 at 2:30 p.m. - Park Slope branch, 431 6th Ave. at 9th St.

Thursday, August 22 at 2 p.m. - McKinley Park branch, 6802 Fort Hamilton Pkwy

Friday, August 23 at 2 p.m. Kings Bay branch, 3650 Nostrand Ave. (near Ave. W)
