Senator Gallivan Reacts to Dec Consent Order WITH Hillcrest Industries

Applauds Funding Of Attica Community Environmental Benefit Project

Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (R,C,I – Elma) welcomed news this week that the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has finalized its consent order with Hillcrest Industries of Attica.

“The DEC consent order hopefully marks the beginning of the end of this long and arduous process that has tested the patience of the Attica community. I am especially pleased to see that the financial penalty levied against Hillcrest Industries will be used to fund an Environmental Benefit Project within the community, rather than merely transfer to the DEC’s bank account in Albany,” Senator Gallivan said.

“Since first hearing of the unusual odors emanating from within the Village of Attica last summer, I have tried my best to be a voice for the residents and a conduit for their concerns, so that together, we could realize a timely and just resolution to this matter,” said Senator Gallivan. “My hat is off to the Attica community and their local elected leaders for their persistence and determination – this result is their victory.”

In November, Senator Gallivan organized an informational session with officials from local government, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, the United States Environmental Protection Agency and Attica residents at Attica High School. This event served as a clearinghouse of information and discussion on the subject of Hillcrest Industries and the potential environmental and health impacts of its activities.
