Event Will Be Co-Hosted By Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office
WEST ISLIP, NEW YORK – Senator Phil Boyle is partnering with the Suffolk County Sheriff's Alcohol and Substance Abuse Task Force and the Youth Enrichment Services to help increase awareness about the dangers associated with drug abuse and the growing heroin epidemic facing Long Island teens. The community meeting will take place at the West Islip Public Library on Thursday, April 25 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM.
“As a parent, and Chairman of the Senate Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Committee, I know that educating our youth and those who care for them about the dangers of substance abuse is key to prevention,” said Senator Boyle. “I am pleased to partner with the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office to bring together members of our community for this important meeting.”
Some of the topics that will be addressed at the meeting include:
• Signs of drug use;
• Current trends in street drugs, prescription drug abuse and heroin; and
• How to find help for a family member or friend using illegal drugs.
At the conclusion of the presentations, attendees will have the opportunity to meet with local groups that can offer more detailed information, advice and treatment. For interested attendees, free take-home drug testing kits will be available.
