Senator Boyle Hosts Black History Awards Ceremony; Honorees Recognized For Contributions To Long Island Communities

Wyandanch, New York – Senator Phil Boyle on Thursday hosted the Black History Awards Ceremony at the Wyandanch Public Library. The ceremony celebrated Black History in the 4th Senate District by honoring several outstanding local residents. 

“It was an honor to join my neighbors in recognizing these exceptional individuals for their countless contributions to our community,” said Senator Phil Boyle.  “These enthusiastic and determined honorees continue to improve the quality of life for others on Long Island and serve as important role models for the community’s youth.”

Honorees ranged from community volunteers and youth counselors, to educators and spiritual and cultural leaders.  The ceremony included performances by the Venettes Cultural Workshop and the Angels of Divine Expression. 

“We are blessed to be able to call them our friends,” said Senator Boyle.  “Special recognition should also be given to Alice Cone not only for her tireless community activism but for doing a wonderful job leading last night’s ceremony.”

“This was the first time that a State Senator initiated a Black History program like this," said Alice T. Cone, who led the awards ceremony.  "It was outstanding.  It’s a new beginning.” 

The events honorees were: Jason Baltimore, Virginia Dawson, Rev. Dr. Daris Dixon-Clark, Kiara Don, Deven Kane, Dr. LaQuita Outlaw and The Venettes Cultural Workshop.  Each award recipient was presented with a certificate commemorating their achievement.
