Senator O'Brien praises action on legislative reform

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Today, Senator Ted O'Brien applauded Governor Cuomo's announcement of a Moreland Commission to investigate the legislature and restore faith in Albany. After serious ethics violations and alleged lawbreaking took place, the legislature failed to enact meaningful reform.

"I am deeply disappointed in the Senate majority coalition's failure to take action," Senator O'Brien said. "No significant piece of reform legislation was allowed to the floor for a vote. We owe it to the people of this state to clean up Albany's behavior. Confidence in government has been shattered, and that makes the work of the legislators who are there for the right reasons much more difficult. I hope this commission investigates the situation thoroughly, holds those who have violated the public trust accountable and helps craft new, stricter rules that will help prevent corruption from recurring."

Sen. O’Brien represents the 55th district in the Senate, which is made up of the eastern half of Monroe County and the western half of Ontario County, including much of the city of Rochester.
