STATEMENT FROM SENATOR TERRY GIPSON ON HIS VAMPIRE VOTING ACT PASSING COMMITTEE
Albany, NY -- Senator Terry Gipson issued the following statement after his Vampire Voting Act passed the Senate Investigations and Government Operations Committee. The proposed legislation would prohibit voting in either house between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m., excluding procedural measures.
"I’m extremely pleased that this body has taken the steps needed to stop voting and passing legislation in the dead of night while the people we represent are asleep. This is a simple yet effective piece of good government legislation. Public trust is not a partisan issue, it is what we as elected representatives must earn by example. I applaud Chairman Marcellino and the Committee for doing what is right.
"Our constituents have a right to witness and have their voices heard in the light of day when we are passing laws that affect their everyday lives. I will continue to work on making this bill law and reforming the way things get done in New York State so we may better serve our constituents."
