Funds will assist with the renovation of the County Office Building
ALBANY - Senator Catharine Young (R,I,C- Olean) announced today that Allegany County will receive a $250,000 grant through the State and Municipal Facilities Program to assist with the conversion of space which previously served as the county’s jail facility into new office space for the other county offices.
“These funds will serve as an asset for Allegany County as improvements will provide the county much needed office space that will ultimately increase efficiency for the day-to-day operations of county offices,” Senator Young said. “The renovation will now allow the county to use the top floor of the current county office building, which had previously served as part of the county jail, as office space to make up for a shortage for other offices. Ultimately, this project will ensure Allegany County will be able to continue delivering the high quality services area residents have come to expect from their government.”
“Senator Young has been well aware of our ongoing space needs and renovations. We are very grateful for the funding that Senator Young has secured which will help us to meet the needs of Allegany County residents in a more efficient and productive manner,” said Chairman of the Allegany County Board of Legislators Curtis Crandall.
“Allegany County has been chipping away at various departments’ space issues over the last several years and addressing the most dire space needs as best we can. However, our space needs have continued growing at a faster pace than we have been able to accommodate. With these grant funds made available by Senator Young, Allegany County will finally be able to make significant progress towards addressing the space needs of some of our most critical departments. By repurposing the top floor of the County Office Building, Allegany County will be able to continue to efficiently and effectively deliver critical County programs,” said Allegany County Administrator Mitchell Alger.
The $250,000 approved in the grant will be used to renovate the top floor of the County Office Building. The area slated for renovations recently became compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act after an elevator project expanded access to the building’s top floor. The area previously served as part of the county jail and will now become office space for other county offices.
